China’s economy is likely to overtake the United States’ by 2030, according to a US intelligence report published Monday.
“Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds,” issued by the National Intelligence Council, said Asia would overtake North America and Europe combined — in terms of global economic power — by the year 2030.
“Meanwhile, the economies of Europe, Japan, and Russia are likely to continue their slow relative declines,” the report said.

The Shenzhou-9 spacecraft touched down safely after a successful 13-day mission to test orbital docking technologies.
BEIJING — Early in the morning on 11 January 2007, China fired a missile topped with a kinetic kill vehicle at a spacecraft in low Earth orbit, smashing it to smithereens….
Although the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) runs China’s space program, leaders here have long maintained that the nation’s aspirations are benign….
With much less fanfare, China is developing a number of other kinetic kill weapons and directed-energy technologies such as lasers and high-powered microwave beams to knock out spacecraft….
In the future battlefield of space, China may speak softly, but it carries a big stick.
